SUMMARY:Women Veterans Day
DESCRIPTION:\nDija Know that Women were not officially a part of the armed
forces until 1948?\n&nbsp\;\nWomen Veterans Day is observed on June 12 in
the United States\, a date chosen to mark the anniversary of the Women's A
rmed Services Integration Act.\n&nbsp\;\nThe Women's Armed Services Integr
ation Act was signed into law in 1948 by President Truman to allow women t
o serve as regular members in the military services. Prior to this legisla
tion\, other than serving as nurses\, women only served in the military du
ring times of war.\n&nbsp\;\n\n\nAlthough it is not a national or state ho
liday\, Women Veterans Day is recognized by 30 states nationwide. The Cali
fornia Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 33 was filed with on June 23\, 2
015\, and designated June 12\, 2015\, as Woman Veterans Day. The bill's go
al was to urge all citizens to join in celebrating the many contributions
of women to our military forces.\n&nbsp\;\n\nToday I want to recognize the
members of American Legion Post 55. Elena Gamboa\, Janis Gannaway\, Mary
 Kight\, Katherine O'Boyle\, Josie Pachkoulous\, Karen Wilson Randles\, Arl
ene Salvador\, Joann Sargent\, Katonya Shaw and Anacleta Thorne. Thank you
  ladies for your service.
